Cloning emergency

Ok... i have been forced to be creative here.. As mentioned in an earlier post, I am getting two Sour Deisel clones on saturday already in rockwool cubes. I have no idea of the state of the clones and how far along they are. I have never propigated a clone before but this is my plan.
I live in an area devoid of normal grow supplies and am always scrambling. Anyway, a few months ago i located a nursery which sells these plastic pots with a foam outer covering which allow them to float. I was toying with the idea of doing a bubble bucket before i decided to go organic soil. I also found a product called espoma soil perfector which are basically clay or volcanic rocks which as per the bag can be used for hydro.
My plan is to put the clones in their cubes within the small pots with the rocks and have them float in a gallon bucket of water with neptune harvest seaweed fertilizer which is basically sea kelp mixture.. To this I would add an airstone to bubble it.
I dont know if the bucket needs to be hooded? plastic wrap? Can they float freely under direct 400w MH lights about 35 inches from the bulb? I would like to put the bucket in my closet which is cat proofed by chicken wire...
Will this work? below is a picture...
Will the lighting be too much and too strong? The temps would be good around 70-80. I may have to change the water every few days? I have a feeling it may work as its not much different then a bubble cloner and wanted to try it with some clones later.. but from my current plants.. Not the valuble SD clones i am being given..

What do you think? I have since located a round plastic take out food cover which will fit over the bucket. I can punch some holes in for ventilation and the bucket will get indirect light from the MH light and will sit in front of my closet.

an open resevoir is not a good idea. you will need to put basket cover on the bucket or something similar to lightproof it. if light goes in the res. it will cause huge problems such as algae growth and no o2 for the mj becuase the algae consumes it all 1st. also this will reak havok on your ph. if you are not an experienced grower i would suggest just putting the cubes in a pot of soil, or soilless such as promix. if you are an experienced grower then do a little more reasearch on dwc hydro and then build your bubbler. good luck

I am only looking for a cloning solution. They do have bubble cloners which are similar to what I have. I am an organic soil grower and just want to root the clones. Once i have roots they will go in soil. I have read so much conflicting info on here.. some say use lights.. some say dont.. Maybe your right... the liquid should be light proofed i guess... Damn.

i am definetely right! the res. must be lightproofed. anyone else will tell you the same thing. this thread has directions on howw i buit my bubble cloner. this is the second time this week iv'e linked this thread to show someone the bubble cloner. good luck. if the cut's aren't rooted why are you only getting 2? try to get more cuts!

I dont know the guy very well.. met at a party a few weeks ago... he volunteered to give me 2.. I thought he was BSing but he brought it up again and said he is bring them this weekend... So this is an oportunity to get an alternate quality strain and dont want to screw it up.. maybe they are rooted.. he just said they are in rockwool cubes.. if they have roots already i am good.. I just assumes he was going to take two cuttings and stick them in cubes and bring them to me...

ask for more, if he has plants then it shouldn't matter if he takes 2 or 15 cuts. my mothers produced 50times as many clones as i needed. i would just take cuts every 2 weeks or so and just throw them away if i didn't need them! i don't hurt to ask. just my $.02

Do you have a tray with humitity dome? If so, or a DIY thingy on maybe a cake pan with a plastic rap tent, just put a very thin layer of water at the bottom, very thin, about as thin as your finger nail and put the cubes with the clones in it. Mist the plastic and in about a week they shoud pop out some roots. Don't let the RW cubes become saturated just a little moist, the thin layer of water will do this for you, because the cubes will soak up the water as needed.

check out my clone set up. do you have a hydro store in your area? this whole setup was under $50. its my first time cloning too and it seems to be working well. i had a three out of three ratio and added a bunch today. check it out
