It isn't something that comes easy... I think the best route would be to apprentice with a glass blower.

Ren Fest is going on right now and they always have a guy there who does it as a show and sells his wares. I talked to him last year after one of his demonstrations and he seemed like a cool guy. When I go this year I'm going to see if he would mind making a pipe for me. It will be over priced if he agrees, but I think it would be awsome to a glass piece that was made just for me ipe:
