foul language
The thing I've learned over the years is, swearing is best used rarely, because then it has more oomph. When you see somebody swear constantly, you just tune it out as white noise. Swearing is like a good spice. A little goes a long way, and more than a little tends to drown out everything else.
Sometimes it just strikes me as lazy too. 'Dude, you're fucking stupid", that's just boring as insults go. I mean, c'mon, if you're going to go through the trouble of insulting someone, invest a little time in it and do it right. Like, "Dude, a boil on a diseased prostitute's oozing pus-rimmed anus has more brain cells than you do" or something like that. Hell, that didn't even contain ANY profanity.
It doesn't bother me, profanity. I can curse in three languages, and I was in that great bastion of profanity, the U.S. Army. But I save it, use it judiciously, so that when I do use it it's not just white noise.

I think the problem is not when people use it, but when people use it every other word.

This dude i used to hang out with, who was like my mentor, once said to me, "Everytime I hear you curse, I feel disappointed. You're better than that". He never spoke about how he felt about trivial things so i knew he meant it. i dont' swear around him anymore and i have cut back on the profanities in general.

exactly...i am not in any way saying people shouldnt or cant cuss..all i was saying was that f this and f that every other word is a bit much..i was not saying people should not or could not swear, i was just saying cant some ppl say some things without every other word being a swear? and by the way....censoring would be saying someone cant say something..all i was saying was cant we just say the words a little less? i think a lot of you took this very wrong, and i think you were quite unfair, to be frank with you..as i said earlier, i was respectful and if you dont agree, there is no reason why you cant post it in a respectful manner..why is that so hard for some of you? why do some of you have to be so crappy to people? and as for the "how did i find marijuana" crack earlier, i found it when i had cancer and was receiving chemo..i am not uptight guys, and again, i was not saying you cant cuss or that you had to agree with me..i was just saying i was finding it rather ridiculous for there to be so many swear words everywhere..i am entitled to my opinion as well...

the only words that are bad are the ones you see as bad. i thhink it is annoying when people throw them around just for the sake of doing it, but i also use them many times myself when it may or may not be warranted. in fact i dont think there is ever a case where it isnt unless i am at a funeral or something. and even then. my point is it is annoying when people just saay it repeatedly like repeating the same profanity 3 times in a sentece many many times gets old. just dont think it makes anyone cool. the only thing that offends me about that is the ignorance, not the words by themself. but people thinking saying words like that will give them some badass rep. i dont know. really i think people that get too offended by words are pussies. but i can see where they are coming from sometimes.

I like cussing, but I do it with in reason. If there is a ten year old kid standing next to me, I watch my mouth. If I am writing a paper for a class or posting an intelligent argument here or on another board, I refrain from cussing. But when I'm around here bullsh*ting on the boards, I throw out f-bombs sometimes. It is how I talk in normal situations when I'm around normal people talking about stupid things. I make no exceptions here. I just never understood the big deal... They are all just words. Unless they are directed towards someone in a malicious way, I don't see what the big deal is. It all depends on context.
I just read your last post and agree with you for the most part.\"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.\"

i dont want to sound like i'm preachin', but when your my age thats all you can really do, so , here i go.....
I was thinking about all the school shootings, kids killing kids, kids killing parents, grand parents, siblings, etc etc, and i got to tell you......not one of them killed because of the word, fuck. Anti-depressants? yep Being bullied? yep. being abused at home? yep. They live under a government that sees violence as a way to solve things. Tv's full of violence. It's a "me against you" mentallity, and only sisses, losers, punks, and the , weak, lose, right?
Sooo..
the next time some latchkey kids go wrong and start shooting up the place, it aint going to because of some old fart in a pro-cannabis chatroom using the word, fuck. It aint gonna be because of Marilyn Manson or Eminem(sp). It aint gonna be because of the kid in baggy jeans.
