When you eat in a resturant.

I got [sort of] fired from one restaurant for totally bitching out a customer.

It's actually kind of a funny story... he was a regular, came in every day for lunch, and every day he complained and I ended up spending more time with this one asswipe than all my other tables and bar seats combined!

The other regulars knew it too... and when I finally finished telling him off, a few people actually started clapping!

And the manager even told me that I could come back but I had to work in a different part of the restaurant for a while, lol.

Yes... that would be running into the walk-in cooler to either cry or punch boxes of lettuce, depending on the situation.

Have you worked in either field before? If not than you are basing everything you are saying on this one observation. I have worked both jobs, and can tell you that serving is much more stressful than ringing up milk. I got hell behind the register sometimes, but nothing can compare to people in resturants that seem to know how to make you feel like complete shit. There isn't any good positon in a resturant. It is prob the most stressful job you can have. Kitchen, dish, waiting, it is all a chaotic mess, unless you work in a small little hole in the wall place. If it is such a cake walk, why do those who have served tip so well? Nearly everyone I know who has waited tables tips 5 bucks minimum. Usually if it is a cheap ticket I will tip about 50%. In my opinion if the service is good the server shouldn't get less than 5 bucks even if the ticket is 4 bucks.

If you havn't worked in this industry than you don't know what it is like. Yes there are worse jobs out there, but those don't require money from customers to make ends meet. And why do people work in resturants? Because there is a lot of money to be made if you are good and work in a good resturant. But that shouldn't excuse people from skimping on a tip. Plus some of the best smoking buddies you will meet work in a resturant. It is the job of weed smokers and other drug users. No drug tests unless you hurt yourself on the job.

Yeah seriously, my biggest pet peeve is seeing someone at a diner who sits there milking their free coffee refills for 2 hours and leaves a few coins because the bill was only $3, but the waitress was over there every 15 minutes going, "Wahmah, hun?" BOOO!!!!

Fine, then let's just see how good your next car is welded together.

I tip atleast 15 dollars. I don't care about percentages, because my meal is usually always under 20 dollars but we travel with a large crew sometimes so we all throw in our left over cash, which adds up fast.

I have waited tables and always recieved good tips, the simple reason is that I always take my work seriously and like to be the best no matter what I'm doing.
Bad waiters get bugger all and the tip is totaly dependent on the service, if the food is crap then I will ask to see the chef and he will be told exactly what I think, but if everything from the waiter was sound then he/she will get what they deserve.

I guess the English must be a little more polite since I really enjoyed my time waiting tables ..

Americans are greedy assholes. I have gotten some really good tips, but have also gotten screwed over a lot. Now I know when I really fucked up at a table and my tip might suffer. I understand that. Sometimes I'll just have a really bad day where I can't seem to get anything right. I went back to the dish room because I was tired of dealing with customers. To many assholes.

Not to mention drunk men with an attractive female server. That shit pisses me off. Treat your server with respect. Not saying anyone here does that but I have seen it many times.
