Have you worked in either field before? If not than you are basing everything you are saying on this one observation. I have worked both jobs, and can tell you that serving is much more stressful than ringing up milk. I got hell behind the register sometimes, but nothing can compare to people in resturants that seem to know how to make you feel like complete shit. There isn't any good positon in a resturant. It is prob the most stressful job you can have. Kitchen, dish, waiting, it is all a chaotic mess, unless you work in a small little hole in the wall place. If it is such a cake walk, why do those who have served tip so well? Nearly everyone I know who has waited tables tips 5 bucks minimum. Usually if it is a cheap ticket I will tip about 50%. In my opinion if the service is good the server shouldn't get less than 5 bucks even if the ticket is 4 bucks.

If you havn't worked in this industry than you don't know what it is like. Yes there are worse jobs out there, but those don't require money from customers to make ends meet. And why do people work in resturants? Because there is a lot of money to be made if you are good and work in a good resturant. But that shouldn't excuse people from skimping on a tip. Plus some of the best smoking buddies you will meet work in a resturant. It is the job of weed smokers and other drug users. No drug tests unless you hurt yourself on the job.
