Been there, done that, only I had opened my purse just BEFORE the clerk could see into it. I quickly got my wallet on top of everything and all was well (big purses are where it's at!).

I went to pay and opened my wallet only to realize thats where I had left my bag of weed! I caught it quickly..but I was super baked and all freaked out they saw. Oh well...
