start the revolution
This has already been posted I am sure but it is worth a repeat in fact writing your public officials should be mandatory for membership to this site!!
I have been an active member of MPP for 3 years now and it is easy you just keep sending emails.
It is so easy now they show you who to write and even help you step by step.
Urge your legislators to end your state's failed war on marijuana!!!
Arresting and jailing adults for using marijuana has completely failed as a public policy, while wasting about $7.7 billion each year. In November 2006, 44% of Nevada voters endorsed a proposal to tax and regulate marijuana, tying the all-time record highest vote for a complete end to marijuana prohibition and demonstrating the continued growth of public support.
Please, ask your legislator to bring the reform to your state by proposing legislation to regulate marijuana.
Here is what the basic letter says you just click on what state you are in and it will take you to this form letter and show you the names of your state reps.
Marijuana prohibition has completely failed as a public policy. Despite more than 750,000 marijuana arrests annually, roughly 41% of Americans have tried marijuana. And roughly 85% of all teens report very easy or fairly easy access to marijuana each year. Any policy that fails this miserably should be reconsidered.
The Netherlands has done just that: In 1976, it replaced marijuana prohibition with the sale of marijuana on a regulated market. Policymakers sought to break the gateway from marijuana to hard drugs â?? figuring the stigma associated with the criminal market and the market itself were the gateways. And the policy has worked far better than the U.S. policy of prohibition. After 30 years, the Netherlands has a far lower marijuana use rate than the U.S. â?? and their hard drug use rate is even lower. In 2001, 3.0% of Dutch nationals were current marijuana users, while 5.4% of Americans were; and 0.4% of Dutch nationals had tired heroin, while 1.4% of Americans had.
Marijuana prohibition simply doesnâ??t make sense: It hasnâ??t worked, itâ??s wasted a fortune, and itâ??s destroyed otherwise law-abiding adultsâ?? lives simply for using a substance that is no more harmful than tobacco or alcohol. Itâ??s time to stop pouring our tax dollars into a failed policy.
Please let me know whether you will support ending marijuana prohibition. Thank you for considering this information. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the issue.
