    How To - Carbon Filter

On the exact filter that you built in the pics and the instructions, what is the rated CFM on it? I know the ones y9ou buy in the store are rated for specific CFMs. What size fan do you have on yours? Have you found that there are any issues when using the same size one for different cfms? i.e: If I use this on a 250 CFM fan, will there be a huge difference if i switch it to a 700cfm fan? Would I need to build a bigger one to accommodate the bigger fan? Also if so do you have stats on the different sizes of the filters with there respective CFM ratings? Sorry if this is to specific, just wondering...

Mega i cant speak for the original poster, but if you have lower cfms then you have to build the carbon chamer thinner and longer so the air can pass through easier and in equal volumes. I made my filter almost twice as tall and about half and inch thinner as the original posters and the air flows out very easily. There is a pic of it in those links. I also put a bathroom cieling fan in the back and wired a plug cord on it. Fan cost me 39.99 canadian at home depot and moves about 90cfm

So can I use this 4" in line duct fan?

box -> 4" duct fan -> carbon filter? Is that how it works? Would I still have a small fan at the top hole of the grow box to push fresh air in? A pic of the filter attached would be helpful.

bottom of the filter goes into the box about 3 centimeters so that the mesh wire part is above the box. Remember that you want the filterd air to go outside into your room not back into te box. The inline fan fits directly to the bottom of the box INSIDE the box itself. It is pushing air up through the filter. You can use a 4 inch inline if you want too. You could also use a 5 or 6 inch inline. Just make sure that you have the proper reducer and the needed room to attach it to the bottom of the filter. The model show originally has a 4 inch bottom. Mine has a 6 inch bottom. it all depends on the size of the inline fan you own.

I don't know what I did wrong, but mine is a lot larger and took up the whole damn tub of activated carbon. I had to trim it down ... then I spilled it on the floor. Holy crap what a mess. Oxyclean worked pretty well on the rug, at least while the carpet is still wet anyway. Thanks for the tutorial!

I still don't get how if you set it up as (inline fan)(scrubber)(duct) the air is going to go anywhere once it hits the scrubber since there's a cap on one end of it.

    What am I missing here?:wtf:

I don't see how that works either, but I also don't see where that was mentioned. Could you please post a link to the post?

It's common to go (scrubber)<-(inline fan)<-(duct) or with the air flowing in the opposite direction.

edit: I don't think you're missing anything at all.

So the scrubber would be the last thing the air hits before it goes outside of the closet? But still, even that way...how does it get past the cap?
