If your not sure if they are cuttings that are coming from a male or female you want to label them, and you still would want to label them if they are all females that they are coming from because you may find out that one of the mothers is only producing clones that are really low yielders and at that point you may want to replace that mother with a higher yielding mother.
As far as lights, you could go with a 4foot 8 bulb T8 fluoro shop light fixture set up and that should keep your mothers just fine.
Also, I am not sure how many internodes that your mothers have, but I would only take half of the clones that you think the mother can spare at first to see how they handle it, and then about a week later I would go and take some more as needed. And yes you can go from hydro to soil, but the other way around, from soil to hydro is not recommended.
