Three USA States vote NO to CannabisVoters in Santa Cruz California voted "yes" on their Measure K. This makes the enforcement of marijuana laws the lowest priority for the Santa Cruz police. Although not technically making marijuana legal, this means that if a cop sees one person smoking a joint, and the other littering, he has to go after the litterbug

I believe a similar ordinance was up for a vote in San Francisco's city council earlier this week, although I haven't seen the official results of the vote. I was up in San Francisco yesterday, however, and was talking with a guy who was sitting on the steps of the main library, right next to City Hall, smoking a joint totally in the open. This is in a very busy part of the city and hundreds of people walked by, including cops, and no one even took a second look. He's a med user so he's "legal" even if he did get hassled. Still, the fact that nobdy took any more notice to him smoking a joint then if he was chewing gum says a lot about how tolerant the city already is.
