weed: the gateway drug
If it ain't natural, I won't do it. Sweet cheeba and shrooms, that's all I've ever done. I don't really like the buzz alcohol gives you, but I have nothing against it. (I DO however, have something against alcoholics.)
Gateway theory is a bunch of bullshit, and I'm not saying that because I smoke more bud than tommy chong. I say this because in theory, it breaks down. Marijuana isn't the strongest drug out there. SOMETHING led to you trying weed for the first time. I say that was the gateway drug. (Mmmm.... oranges..)
Fuck anyone who says otherwise. I do this (and any other) drug because I WANT TO. It's up to me, and no substance, person, institution, or fucking cop dictates my action. OVERGROW THE GOVERNMENT!!!!

weed: the gateway drug
I don't think smoking weed necessarily leads to other drugs, but I have to say that my attitude towards other drugs has changed a great deal since I started smoking pot. I think that now I do consider trying stuff that I wouldn't have even thought about before smoking pot. Funnily though, I have no curiosities about the drugs that are commonly the ones that people are afraid weed leads to, namely heroin, E, coke, crack, etc. and have become more interested in spiritual substances like salvia, shrooms, and DMT which I would only take on very rare occasions, i think weed is still the only drug I'm comfortable using habitually, so I guess in the important ways (i.e. chronic use of very harmful substances), weed's not a gateway but like Ghost said, you're the gateway. I'm happy where I am.
BB- first off, i don't start developing serious immunity/tolerance unless i've been smoking all day every day for a while, but when I do, even a few days off will get me back to light-weight status. If you smoke in moderation most of the time, it probably won't become a problem just because of the time, I think quantity is a big factor in figuring how high the tolerance goes. Sometimes i'll smoke a J, be high for like 20 minutes, and then feel nothing, and that's when I know I've been smokin too much.
Also what helps sometimes, is going out drinking and getting disgustingly wasted. I find that when i'm hungover, a doobie is the greatest medicine, and I realize the beauty of the buzz in contrast with the confused pointless alcoholic stupor I was in the night before...
peace
ps- cool poem BB.

Ghostoker's completely right. Marijuana cannot be considered a gateway drug.. you can't blame something else (especially something as harmless as weed) for YOUR drug use. Whether you choose to use harder drugs or not comes from within you. There isn't a voice inside of weed saying "use coke! heroin man!" Same with amotivational syndrome... If you choose to sit around and let your life turn to shit, then that's your problem. Everything comes down to the individual. Reminds me of addiction - sure, harder drugs can be pretty addictive, but if you had enough sense to stay away from them, or enough willpower, then you wouldn't be selling your neighbors cat for some crack.

Of course, selling your neighbors cat for an orange is a different story.

weed: the gateway drug
I have smoked weed for about 7 years now. It was the first drug i tried. I have tried others since but not habitually. If that the reason i tried E's, coke etc is due solely to weed why did i stop them, and continue to smoke weed? The whole 'gateway' argument is a pile of shit- proliferated by self obsessed do gooders intent of taking away any small pleasures left in this world. They try to group 'drugs' under one evil banner, but don't realise that it is probably their kids out there popping Es and stuffing coke up their noses.
Anyway, if you really want to get pedantic, the first drug i actually tried was alcohol! you don't hear the politicians lobbying for that to be banned- do i hear cries of lost tax revenue or am i just being cynical!
Here in the uk we have problems with alcohol- binge drinking at the weekends mainly. From a social point of view cannabis has far fewer implications compared to alcohol- which would you rather have- hoards of pissed up cunts fighting, smashing up cars and being generally abusive, or some chilled out stoners looking for a shop cos they've got the munchies?
Thats my rant for the day. Peace.\"Give a man an eigth and he will smoke for a day.
Give him some seeds and a hydroponics kit and he will smoke for a lifetime.\"
I think it was Plato who said that. Peace.
