might you mean the carb? the little hole on most pieces.. you put your finger over hit while you take your hit, and then take your finger off when you want all the smoke left in the pipe to go into your lungs. plus it kinda forces you to inhale right. which is a plus for rookies

its a hole that was not made properly or professionaly--
maybe a hole that doesnt look or work very good -for what application it is being used---lol

that little hole on the side of my bowl...its perfectly round, and i know its supposed to be there because EVERY bowl ive ever seen has one.
