Saudi court sentences rape victim to 90 lashes
By DPA
A Saudi court has sentenced a gang rape victim to 90 lashes of the whip because she was alone in a car with a man to whom she was not married.
The sentence was passed at the end of a trial in which the al- Qateef high criminal court convicted four Saudis convicted of the rape, sentencing them to prison terms and a total of 2,230 lashes.
The four, all married, were sentenced respectively to five years and 1,000 lashes, four years and 800 lashes, four years and 350 lashes, and one year and 80 lashes.
A fifth, married, man who was stated to have filmed the rape on his mobile phone still faces investigation. Two others alleged to have taken part in the rape evaded capture.
Saudi courts take marital status into account in sexual crimes. A male friend of the rape victim was also sentenced to 90 lashes for being alone with her in the car.
The court heard that the victim and her friend were followed by the assailants to their car, kidnapped and taken to a remote farm, where the raping occurred.
The victim was quoted by Okaz newspaper as saying she had expected harsher penalties for the assailants, especially as they had pleaded not guilty.
Her husband and family said that they would appeal to the court Saturday for harsher penalties for a crime which has shocked public opinion in Saudi Arabia and been the subject of months of debate.

US Soldier Admitted Iraqi Rape
The graphic account o the alleged assault came from criminal investigator Benjamin Bierce who said he interviewed one of the accused, Spc. James P Barker, on June 30.
Bierce was testifying on the second day of a hearing to decide whether a group of five US soldiers must stand trial.
James Barker is accused along with SGt. Paul E. Cortez, Pfc. Jesse V Spielman, Prc. Bryan L. Howard of rape and murder.
A fifth soldier, Sgt. Anthony W. Yribbe, is accused of failing to report the attack and is alleged to have lied to cover up for his colleagues.
The case is one of a series of atrocities blamed on US forces in Iraq.
Barker??s sworn and signed statement was submitted to the hearing and Bierce revealed some details during his testimony.
According to Barker??s statement, 12 soldiers had been drinking Iraqi whisky mixed with an energy drink and practising golf swings at a checkpoint south of Baghdad, on the day of the attack.
One of the men, Specialist Steven Green, said that he "wanted to go to a house and kill some Iraqis", the statement alleged.
Four of the accused ?? Barker, Sergeant Paul Cortez, Private Bryan Howard, Private Jesse Spielman ?? agreed with Green's plan.
They allegedly changed into black silk underwear and masks and set off for the family's nearby home, the statement said.
They then went to the house about 200 metres away and put the parents and the girl??s young sister in the bedroom.
It??s alleged Green and Mr Cortez then took it in turns to rape or attempt to rape the girl in the living room.
Barker said he heard shots from the bedroom, and Steven Green emerged with an AK-47 in his hand saying, ??They??re all dead. I just killed them.?
He then raped the girl and shot her dead before her body was doused in kerosene and set alight.
After the murders, the troops allegedly returned to their checkpoint 200 metres away and "grilled chicken wings", the statement said.
same responce ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!?!?

Apparently that doesn't matter, you have made up your mind.
BTW If they are convicted we won't dig up the dead girls bodies and beat them, or whip their parents, there's a difference here.
Focus real, real hard Krogith and see what happens.

Funny haha i thought we were in Iraq instead of Saudi Arabia.
AND by the way bong30. Of all countries in the middle east(besides Israel) We have closest ties to SAUDI ARABIA. Also where the supposed HIJACKERS on 9/11 came from. Guess what? Bin Laden's family is also from SAUDI ARABIA. But of course we could never even speak to them about this because we need there precious oil and they know it. We shouldve invaded saudi arabia instead.

I think the point is we should oppose any society that punishes victims or conducts public beheadings for petty crimes...
