Is it really important to use CFL's?

Hello People, friends, fellow pot dudes,

ok....i have been having a discussion with someone who is experienced with growing. He was saying that when i have a clone set up....i can leave the plants on the window sill and wait till the closet is ready for them (cycles). He said that the light shud be fine. (Im from the united kingdom-so the lighting isnt as good as u guys in the states)

I have disputed the fact that it will strecth and not be a thick/sturdy as if compared to using Cfl's. He agreed with that but doesnt really think its that important as he still gets good yields.

I seem to like this simple idea...but i am interested to have u guys involved in this debate.

Is it reallt THAT important to use cfls during the vegging stage (or until its one and a half foot tall)

I look forward to hearing the professional views.

    cheers guys

If you are talking about cloning. I guess that would work the cuttings dont do very much photosynthesis at that time. But you're you to get very leggy plants if your vegging them in a window. (is that what you mean)

and CFL's are not the best lighting for vegg. MH are but they cost a lot

my theory is: the more variables you can measure and control the better.

    hey harris,

yeah i was thinking about the 2 situations...both in the cloning stage and from vegging. Thats an interesting fact about the photosynthesis from a clone.

Im using a blue light enovlite (200 watt) for vegging stage for my 1st plants, then hopefully place the clones on the window ledges-i was even thinkin bout buildin a little box just for the clones (but u say that they will be ok in the natural light so im not sure if i will bother)

    cheers harris
