Freaking out: EYE PROBLEMS
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if a retinal vein hemorrhage/leakage could be aggravated or caused by marijuana? I feel like the onset of my condition was coincident with marijuana use.
So that's one question.
The other question is, can marijuana aggravate retinal detachment?
Hope there's an eye doctor in the house.TheSmokingMonkey Reviewed by TheSmokingMonkey on . i have heard that long-time cannabis use can cause your eyes to become permanently red, although that always contradicted my observations- my friends that smoke a ton of weed never have red eyes when their high anymore. but if what i heard was true, it sounds like weed could affect your eyes in some way. get it checked out for sure.

From my experience with cannabis it is good for the eyes. I've had glaucoma 27 years and did not use doctor prescribed the first 6 years. Pot dried up around here and my opthamologist put me on betopic then timoptic then pilopine gel then xalatan. These medicines worked best when I also used cannabis. Using the medicines alone only led to laser surgery.
I also have had diabetes 41 years with no sign of diabetic retinopathy. After
many more years than any doctor spent becoming a doctor I know from experience cannabis is excellent medicine for the eyes. I had to tell my doctor why I wasn't going blind. He admitted cannabis was working for me.

I've never seen an ophthalmologist online here, SmokingMonkey, and gosh, I'm sorry about your retinal vein hemorrhage. Did you by any chance go ahead and ask the doctor who treated you? (I think I already know the answer to this because I've read your opinion on this subject before.) You could also call up an ophthalmologist and just ask like you were asking for someone else or out of medical curiosity as a future dentist. I assume the dilation of perhipheral vessels could probably be responsible for that, but I have a friend who has sudden retinal leaks for no reason whatsoever. It just happens to her.
I have an idea! He's out of town right now, but my sister's neuro-ophthalmologist, who deals a lot with folks who have metastisized cancer affecting their brains/eyes (and whose patient population also includes people using medical MJ) might be a good one to ask. He's also very nice and open-minded about MJ. When he's back after next holiday week, I'll be happy to ask him.

Sometimes when I get high my eyes feel strange too. Sometimes they feel tight and sometimes I don't feel like I have eyes at all lol. But I usually ignore it because it isn't really a problem and my eyes are effing blood shot so theres the obvious answer to why I'm noticing something different about the feeling of my eyes.

Freaking out: EYE PROBLEMS
My brother has a similar problem with retina issues since birth. When he was 9, his retina detached, and it was a hellish experience for him, since we were overseas at the time....he started seeing purple in his vision and he had to be flown back to the states right away for surgery. I can't say if it would aggravate it, however he's been smoking marijuana for years without any signs of retina detachment. Infact I'm interested to know if it does indeed aggravate it. It's hard to say for certain because a lot of factors could lead to retinal detachment like getting hit in the head the wrong way, or the pressure from riding a roller coaster. Good question tho.
