May relocate, need help
Mrs. Bear and I are thinking about venturing out of the last frontier in about a year to take up residence in another den. We are looking at New Mexico, TX, but laws there are pretty harsh, down south, but same thing with laws and other than that our options and minds are open. We prefer a more rural scene, a place where we can pick up a couple acres for the kids and dogs to romp and ride.
Tel me about the laws of your land and perhaps the economic scene.

If you're thinking of the west/southwest area, I'd say wait to see if the Nevada and Colorado initiatives are passed.

My sentiments exactly. Obviously, California for the most part is tolerant if you are a medical patient but property is expensive unless you enjoy the desert. Desert is pretty but man can it get hot!

How about Sierra Vista, Arizona? Fast-growing, but lots of property around, not really expensive. There's an Army base nearby (where I was staioned for a time). There are mountains nearby (not gigantic ones, but not bad, fun to climb), Mexico isn't far, Tuscon isn't far if you want a medium-sized city for something, and if you need a huge city for some reason, Phoenix isn't THAT far. Plus, you're in shooting range of California and Nevada, should you want to take a road trip and see the beach or hit the casinos. Not far away are the Grand Canyon, the big meteor crater, Saguaro National Park or whatever (fun camping), Tombstone isn't far (I had a Margarita in every bar in Tombstone one weekend, burp!), lotsa stuff to do really. I was there off and on for two years and never ran out of places to explore and stuff to do. All-in-all, it was a great place to live and then use as a base to go see other areas nearby, since it's not a bad drive to so MANY cool places.
The downside is the heat, but because it's somewhat elevated it's not as bad as you might expect, way nicer than Phoenix. And heat must not be that big a concern anyway, or you wouldn't be mentioning New Mexico or Texas.

AZ could be a possibility, but I know that it is also pricy as well from my experience. TX and NM are relatively cheap places to live and offer allot of land for very low cost.
I do like AZ though, have a good friend who lives in Phoenix.
Thanks for the input.
PS, how stricked are the MJ laws?

No idea on the MJ laws in Arizona. I was in the Army then, so my laws were pretty strict regardless of state laws (but I had my ways!). I don't recall having or hearing of any major probs though, and I never had any problem scoring whenever I wanted to. Some good stuff too, usually; must be a lot of growers around Sierra Vista supplying the soldiers. Support the troops!

Good morning Mr. Bear.
May I suggest the lovely and liberal land that is Vermont?
There are lots of things going for it.
Peaceful, rural little towns (can be depressing in winter, but so can AK!)
Very forward-thinking population
Close enough to Boston, Springfield MA, and Hartford CT that you can make an easy day trip of it when you start to feel too isolated
Close to Montreal too!
Interesting economic scene- although there's plenty of rural poverty like many rural areas, you will find on the whole a well-educated and interesting bunch of neighbors and interesting employment opportunities within driving distance.
UMass Amherst is a HUGE employer and is a reasonable commute from the southern end of I-91.
The microbrews are fabulous too by the way.
And you'd be my neighbor!
Yay!

Hmm Stinky that sounds like a very attractive place to be. Perhaps I will have to do some research. I wonder if I could be with in distance to smell your attic? LOL
