The current lights are fine, and they should be only a few inches away from the plant. If the first smooth leaves (the cotyledons) are the only leaves that are dying, and the rest of the plant seems OK, then the plant is probably OK. And don't use miracle grow. For an inexpensive initial fertilizer you can use something like fish emulsion. But don't fertilize yet, wait till about the second or third week. Then if the plant takes that well you can use a stronger fertilizer if you want.
phytokind Reviewed by phytokind on . Again another Light Question. I tend to ramble a little, but bear with me please. Someone threw a seed in one of my plants (house, aloe) and Surprise! It sprouted. I tried to save it, although it took me a week and a half to get some decent lighting over it. I also transplanted it at this time (Saturday). I know it was way to early to do this, but I didn't want to wait to long with it being with that aloe plant (roots entertwining, ect;). Now it's first leaves that are not serrated are white and about to fall off, and Rating: 5
