"competing for light [under one 400 watt]"

thats totaly bollocks, as long as they are not shading each other, then they are all getting the same amount of light.....but the further away any given bit of plant is from the light souce, the less light it gets, and therefore the less bud.

training and pruning aside, 4 plants under 400watts will yield 4 times more than 1 plant.

if you bump the number of plants up to , say 10, for example....thats where you start running into probs with a small light like a 400watter, not enough power, not enough coverage, thats where LST and SCROG come into play.

also, there seems to be way too much emphisis on early flowering.....veg your plants as long as you can, say 50% of total max height, and if worst comes to worst, bend the bitch over!

    bigger plant=bigger buds.

there is places that do get 24 hrs sun light for a little while anyway.
while I dont think 18/6 or 24 hours makes that big of a difference would probably just stick to which ever you are using.
think 1 large plant could easily yield the same as your previous grow with 4 plants but not only is lighting important so is the strain used high yielding strain versus average or low yielding strain would also affect yield.
