Someone who's funny, smart and compassionate was at the top of my list. Looks were far less of a priority, and the truth is that looks can and do change over time. In the end you want to make sure you're left with someone who's funny and intelligent when you're old and gray and wrinkled.

Fortunately I'm not hopelessly old, gray or wrinkled just yet. And even more fortunatley, my husband has grown more attractive over the years rather than less. The bad news is our golden years are still out in front of us. So we may both lose every ounce of attractiveness and look like absolute toads before we come to the end of our run together. At least once we reach the toad years, however, we'll still be able to make each other laugh!
