Carved a pipe, need a screen or not?

So I just carved myself a nice little wooden pipe since I'll be harvesting soon, and I was wondering if I should use a screen with it. I drilled a relatively small hole for the bowl, and a narrower passageway for the stem. But if I do need something like a screen, is there something more natural that I can use, and more readily available?

Only use a screen if you suck through alot of crap (ash,bud,..etc) during the course of a bowl smoking...If not...no need for a screen. A while back an old friend of mine would use a small pebble in his glass pipe to act as a sort of screen...Guess that's natural...:smokin:

Sorry no pictures but it's very simple and portable. I rubbed it with some oil and then flamed it to temper and seal it, and it seems to be relatively flame proof now, also smoked some green tea with it and it worked quite well.

I just put a stem in the bottom. but i use a bong and sometimes at the end of the bowl the stem burns and all the shit falls through into the water which isn't a big deal

would be for a pipe tho
