u.g.u is correct, pre-flowers are the pistils or balls that show. But they show during long periods of Veg cycle (24/0 or 18/6 of light). Watching for preflowers is the main way people get mother plants for their clones instead of force flowering then pushing the plant back to veg which the plants don't like.
