Hi, I was just wondering, what is your opinion on lights - would you say they are 100% neccessary or can plants grow without them?

    Regards

If your going to grow inside you NEED a light, its MORE than obvious. If your growing outside, sunlight is fine, but it needs to be the right time of year, and at the moment its not, as its fall, which means the light times are all wrong.

And growing on a window sill is no good either, because the plant needs direct sunlight, and a window sill will never give direct sun light, and if it does, it'll only be like an hour. your plants will get stretched and it'll be a waste of time.

Kind of stupid question really aint it?

i think you should define your question more. What do you mean

no you dont need flourescent lights. but you need light. so how are you going to produce it.

    Sun
    CFl
    Tube flour
    HM
    HPS

    thats about all your options

I was thinking of CFL, I don't know the first thing about lighting, but my plants grew even more today which makes me think even more about lighting!

    See attached pic for progress

I've been using a 150 watt CFL at 24/0, in a heat lamp, on my new BG (Bubble Gum) plant, for about 4 days. And in those simple 4 days, my plant has undergone 5 inches of growth, and the serrated leaves are already nearly an inch wide, and are already almost an inch and a half long. They're even splitting off, this early.

...My older brother walked in and saw the sprout (yes, it's only been 4 days since this thing started growing, so it's a sprout) and said:

"Holy shit dude. I've NEVER seen a sprout look that mature, at only 4 fucking days of growth! It's tall as a motherfucker, and the leaves are already getting pretty big. Whatever you're doing dude, you're doing it right!"

Well the secret is, i'm sort of a 1st time grower. And am growing because i'm a certified card-holding MMJ patient. So obviously, simply a CFL will do the trick. But since mine is relatively strong (at 150 watts), and i'm using a heat lamp, i've got to keep the light further away from the plant so it doesn't burn up. So right now, it's about 11 inches away from the plant, and doing fine. Growing and everything (obviously).

I already need to add some sort of support to it, because it's growing so rapidly. I might need to break out the toothpicks and string, sooner or later. Then put more wind on it, so the stem will thicken up. =P

Thanks alot! Since my first post in this thread, I have moved the plantpot to a very warm cupboard, since then the little seedlings have split and seperated, and have turned a pale green! Thats within 2 hours. I will post pic's tomorrow morning
