does weed make you a better singer?
Hey y'all, I have a question for all the singers here (amateur or pro, doesn't matter)---
How does weed affect the process of singing? I don't mean just the physical aspects, like what it does (or doesn't do) to the vocal cords. I mean the emotional aspects too.
Do you feel like you sing better when you're high? are you more loose /
free / emotional? can you get into the song more?
Vocal range, falsetto, etc. can you still do the really high notes?
Like for instance, trying to sing like Justin from the Darkness--- would
that be easier or harder when you're baked? is it maybe harder to do
physically (because of the smoke inhalation), but easier mentally 'cause you
feel more uninhibited?
3. how is pot different from alcohol in this regard?
Thanks for any responses, I'm really curious what you guys think.daver123 Reviewed by daver123 on . does weed make you a better singer? Hey there,
Not a singer ... but do a lot of production work. I work with a number of bands and artists, and I can say one thing ... double the studio time you buy if you are smoking weed while recording... not necessarily due to cock ups, but because the creative process is when underpinned by any drug - sometimes it makes it better, sometimes it makes it a LOT worse.
There is a big different between live and studio working, and quite often, new artists who come in expect to acheive the "live" effect as easily in a studio as they do in a club... singers especially - but one thing is true .. live, the athmosphere carries you.. increases the flow of adreniline in the system, making you more alert...
In the Studio, where you may be repeating components many times, I have found that smoking causes forgetfulness ... lol .. lyrics take a lot longer to record!!

I just sing for the fun of it, but I find smoking messes with my voice and makes me cough. Vaping doesn't mess my voice up though and no cough. I now vape a lot more than I smoke and this is one of the minor reasons. Stealth, economy, and cleaner lungs are the major reasons.

I have to agree with Inspiration when it comes to recording and production, sometimes it's harder to get things done. However, other times I feel more creative and adventurous which usually lead to more original stuff (or not!).
I do feel a considerable difference when I sing high. I feel like my muscles are more relaxed and my improv skills are better. But YMMV I guess.
