You should probably have a few prepared pieces though, they also love classical guitar. I mean thats pretty much the majority of what you learn in college anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into his music.

Lately, I've actually been playing classical style guitar. I learned basics in summer programs back home at the college and I learned the style of playing. I've gotton back into it, not classical music itself, just the style where you pick with your fingers and play softly and with contrast. I play it on this guitar I found at a thrift shop for $4. It had a broken neck, but I fixed it up and within 48hrs, it was like brand new.

Maybe if I tossed some classic rock in there and some of my own playing styles of heavy music would really surprise them.

I can play about 75% of Metallica's Master O.P album without a hitch. I think Blackened has an amazing opening riff and has been one of favs of all time.

I need 2 songs, but I also need to re-learn all the theory that goes with it.

Thanks for the suggestion Slipknot.

How's your mouth feeling these days? Got any leafy green substance to help aid it yet?
i'm glad you like my advice and no unfortunately i haven't even had one hit since the surgery and it hurts like a bitch, there's still like parts of teeth sticking out (it's normal, i've went through this before, so i'm not worried about it) and as you can imagine, that is very painful... all i can do to stop the pain is take three ibuprofens and keep rubbing my gums with hurricaine (a gel/paste like anesthetic 20% benzocaine) still can only eat soft foods, i tried to eat two burgers a couple of days ago (jumbo jacks with just cheese meat and onion) but i found myself paying more than it was worth (metaphorically) in the end so i went back to soups =/ i want real food.... hope you find the right peices before too long, cuz if you don't know them already you're gonna need lots of practice til you can play them drunk stoned barred out and blindfolded.... (not trying to make you nervous lol)

just remember when you get up there to play the peices, be yourself, let your creativity flow like a river and play for yourself, not them... if they don't like it, well fuck them they dont' know talent <.< i've never heard you play, but i have faith.... most of the people i've known that play guitar, are stoners, seems to be a natural gift of us, i used to play, but that was long ago and i played acoustic back when i was into country music.

Thats cool man, Classical is the way to go for school. I play a lot of technical metal like between the buried and me and shit like that, but I doubt I'd actually play that for an audition because I know most of the professors could care less about that type of music. Unless you're lucky and you're judged by someone who appreciates that style, your best bet is to stick with classical guitar since thats what most colleges are interested in, at least in the beginning anyway.

    mate...
    I honestly don't know...
Maybe learn a song with finger picking in it?
It depends what they are looking for really...
I would say probably somthing in a hard (unusual) scale
some fingerpicking maybe, key changes...timing (not just fast but slow...possibly time changes)
    hahaha just some ideas

They might want to see how well you understand music...not what you can play and make sound good....to be honest they could be looking for anything so I would say play somthing that you are comfortable with.

hahaha ill try and think of a peice you could listen to....cant think right now

Hopefully your mouth starts feeling a little better soon man. I had only 2 teeth pulled, wow huh back in Jan.. The recovery was especially painful because the open wounds weren't clotting, so air was getting up to my roots, causing major pian, so bad I couldn't even sleep, so I feel for you.

Smoking cannabis and music come hand in hand. It gives you the freedom to be as creative as you want, and puffing some opens that up even more.

I figure if I wow them with a more conventional, mature piece of music, maybe even classical like the other post posted (I'm sorry man, but your name is too complicated for my feeble mind), and one piece of really me.

I do agree though, starting out you really need to impress. It will be hard, but nobody said this would be easy.

i have a suggestion, maybe ask them (or ask around to other people in the class) what type they're looking for, tell them you want to show them you can play anything, but you have a 'special' peice planned that is all you, play what the type they want you to play to show your skill of adaption, then for the third, show your style off like a mofo, but something so complicated they may shit themselves, or play something moderately simple so well, they again shit themselves... if i was a 'judge' i'd honestly want you to show your adaption skills, along with playing skill, but i'd also want to see you play your style, that combination could be used to judge pure skill... and i still stick with one by metallica (you seem a fan so i kinda find this redundant to mention but just incase, 'one' is a song by metallica, with the perfect score of music [imho] that would be soft enough for anyone to appreciate, but all the while still being 'you' instead of just what everyone else wants to hear...

because without 'you' you're just a drone, i mean everyone, and i mean EVERYONE has thier own style, and everyone should stick to that style (in all things in life, not just music) because being someone else just isn't natural...

i can't say for sure because i don't know the people who will be judging, but for me and i'm sure alot of other people, showing the true you earns more points then playing any peice could ever do. it takes serious balls to throw away fear and be you when facing something like this, but it takes balls to survive the thing we all call life and living.
