Growing cannabis with kids in the house

How many of you grow with kids in the house? I have two young girls (a toddler and a 4 year old) I keep our grow of a few plants (my husband and I) in our locked bedroom closet. Both bedroom door and closet doors are locked. They don't know yet that we grow plants in there but they have seen the plants before on the occations I have taken them out when the plants show signs of trouble or need special attention. My oldest doesn't know what cannabis is. She just knows it's one of many plants that mommy grows. I know that there is going to be a time in the near future when I am going to have to explain to my girls about what mommy is growing and why they have to keep it a secret. I'm just not sure how to go about it. We are only growing for personal/medical use. We won't nor will we ever sell. My husband does have a medical marajuana card so he is legal under state law so I am not too worried about my kids if someone should find out and call the authorities. It's just a few plants. It's something I don't want advertised. My 4 year old can't keep a secret so we never use the word marajuana, cannabis or any other name related to weed around our kids. What did you say or what will you say when your kids begin asking questions?

I would say its a good idea just to tell them they are 'special tomatoes' or something like that, either that or find somewhere else to grow them, if you grow alot of plants, and you have a big enuff garden, you should just put a small shed at the end, and keep it locked, best of luck though, hope you work somethin out...

That is always a hard one. In my case, little ones have never seen, herd or suspected anything. My pa and law has taken a different root, they have always smoked around their girl of 10 since she was little and she became so accustomed to it that she just doesn't even pay any attention to it now. She thinks that it is pretty much the same as cigarettes.
Perhaps since they have never hid it, she has never had to try to figure out what is so secretive about it. It is the curiosity that usually makes for to many questions IMO.
Well, this is just my short answer and perhaps when my children are older I will have came to a different bend in the road and will have a better way to explain to my little ones, are maybe I will not always grow. If the situation became too bad I would just stop growing until they were old enough to be out of the house. It may sound extreme, but I have had to many problems with LIO to take this whole thing lightly and I would rather be with my family then try to grow under risky circumstances that could seperate me from them for a long time.

Blue Bear has a good point, ... fact is, every now and then, I see a pot-growing bust in the newspapers, and the children are taken away by Family Services ... :smokin:

I thought social services was by state not federal so I am assuming that if were to "get raided" over three plants and we do have a valid california medical marijuana card so I can safely assume that they couldn't take our childeren anywhere. Our kids have seen dad smoke from the time they were babies. My husband smokes cigars as well so when he does take "his medicine" we just refer it to as just one of his small cigarellosif they ask which they don't. I grow a variety of different kinds of house plants, vegetables and I have a large flower garden. My kids just think that my cannabis is nothing short but one of the house plants on the rare occations they have seen them.

Ya know, if you also grew house plants around the house, or even started garden plants in doors, or fruit trees then the mj would just seem like another plant. As for a reason they are in a special grow area is because they need a differnt situation to grow those types. Smoking around em is fine, just do it like u would a cigar or cigg.

Kids are so in tune to picking up on how you act and if u are trying to hide something from them. I've known people that worked in day care and they have said kids will tell them all sorts of private life stuff. Kid love to talk and they are very in tune to whats going on around them. They know more then we think they do alot of times. You can't trust em with a secret, they don't know better. I've tried to keep a secret with my 4 year old (nothing bad or illegal) but as soon as mommy came home it was the first thing out of her mouth even tho she knew not to say anything about it and agreed to it.

Make it all part of normal life and it should all be nothing worth mentioning to them.

With todays society eventually they'll get you caught lol. In High School times they might hear some of their friends talking about smoking some weed and some dealer having alot they could get. Then your daughter might mention that you grow and she probably could try to get some from you or take it her self . I think you're just gonna have to do a remote grow eventually because one day I know they will become interested and or make the mistake and say the wrong thing when in a conversation about marijuana.

I know this to be true from personal experience. My parents smoked/grew and were very clear with me about keeping it a secret. I was probably around 7 or 8. I really didn't think telling my one friend would be a big deal... My parents were busted a few years later and I'll never know if it was because of the one kid I told and maybe who he told. Luckily my parents got off easy because they were respected members of the town. But that didn't stop the local paper from say "Pot Farmers busted", when all they had were 6 plants. It was pretty much hell for me for awhile. So my advice would be to keep it a secret until you think they can really understand what a secret is and why you have to keep things a secret sometimes.
