100% dark for flowering????

Plants must have 12 hours of total darkness to induce flowering. Where I'm at - it makes more sense for me to give 12 hours of light at night and then turn off the lamps for 12 hours during the daytime. This will help me regulate temperature.


Here's my question: Of course I wll keep the room dark and will seal any obvious leaks, but if I miss one, am I totally screwed? I mean, in nature plants receive moonlight, no?

Another noo-b question: to induce flowering, should I err on the side of a little extra darkness? In other words if my timer is not totally accurate - should I make sure its getting over a little over twelve of dark or a little over 12 of light?

A little over is probably better than a little under. But that likely won't make much diff either way. As for the total darkness thing, from what I've read, the difference between 99 percent lightproof and 100 percent lightproof can be as much as 30 percent difference in yield. Whether that's true or not, I do not know, but it doesn't hurt to assume it's true and do everything you can to keep all light out. But even if you don't, you'll get some yield. If you're in the selling business, that could be a considerable financial difference if that's true though. I go to some pretty crazy lengths to keep light out, just in case that IS true.
