    White Widow seedling trouble

    My white widow seedling is about two weeks old now. She has three sets of true leaves and is working on her fourth. She is growing under cool florecent lights at 75 degrees. Her medium is 25% peatmoss 25% topsoil and 50% perlite. Since she is still a seedling and still has her bean leaves, I have not given her any ferts. I have just given her water (pH 6.7) Here is the trouble. I noticed her leaf tips begining to yellow. ALL her leaf tips. They are not burnt. There are no burn spots anywhere on the leaves. The yellowing is progressing inward toward the rest of leaf. So now the leaf tips and margins are yellow and moving to the center of the leaves. At this stage what can I do for her? I have three other white widows at the same age and they are not experiencing any of this......yet. Do I foliar feed her at like 25% strength or is it still too early?

    probably over-watering, let her dry between waterings ... you should be ok to start 1/2 strength feeding now ... :smokin:

    It's definitely NOT overwatering. She is due for a dose of water because her soil is dry. I always let my seedlings soil as well as all my plants go almost completly dry before I water them. So i guess I'll add a liitle ferts to a spray bottle and foliar feed her. I don't want to put it in her soil just yet incase she doesn't really need it and it's something else.

    Seems to reason that because she has no food in the substrate that she would begin drawing N from the existing foliage. Just figuring here as I have only grow from cuttings. I know peat can creat some PH issues as well. Did you buffer your medium at all?

    Ph is Ok. Now I am noticing some purple streaks on her stems. I know there are some strains that have purple on their stems. What about white widow? Do they have any purple? Is this natural or is it trying to tell me something?

    i just posted on your other thread. i think this is normal. however, the yellowing sound like it could be a root prob, considering that you are using cool whites. try a root builder nute at very low strength and wait and watch.

    i will say this though. my blueberrys turned yellow on the edges once they were five nodes high. yellow stayed forever, but plants grew like hell, and new foliage was nice and perdy green.

    let us know whats up!

    love, brooke

    What is a root builder nute? Is there a brand or name you could reccomend. Mayby where I might find it? You might be right because whenever I water my seedlings, they tend to lean way over as if they are not anchored well.

    You said yellowing and purpling, which to me indicates a nitrogen deficiency. I would start feeding it at a really low concentration, like someone else already mentioned. If it gets better- great, if it gets worse, it might be a pH problem or something else.

    Here are some pics. Its not severe yellowing but its beginning. The purpling is only on the stems not the leaves. I am struggling to understand why there would be a deficiency. I've read that seedlings don't need any nutes until their bean leaves lie off and cant provide them with the nutrients they need. Her bean leaves are still strong and green. Her pH is 6.8.
