impossible to help without 'being there' ... but, you will need a router on the 'mother' computer, and a compatible wi-fi capability on the other computer ... also, he needs to be within 'range' of your computer, with an unobstructed 'line-of-sight' between the two antennas ... :smokin:

A router is a device that is needed to share a connection wirelessly... it is a small box that the original wire comming into the house is pluged into...
does your laptop got a internet wire going into the back??? or is it wireless now??? if it is wireless now then you have a router...
if so we can continue if not get a wireless router...
Routers are what they are named they route the internet to others on a network, which is what U need...

gotta go but here is a rundown on setting up a network...
Start>Network connections>Set up a Home or small office network>next>next>This computer connects to the internet through another computer on my network or through a residential gateway>should be filled in so,,,next>Name your network,do not leave it MSHOME as it is filled,,, next>next>Just finish the wizard,,, next>finish...
do the same on your buds puter using the nework name...
This all assumes you both have WindowsXp I'll be back briefly in about 30 minutes,I gotta go now...

You cant do it without a router/hub/switch.
