Best way to get my mother going

Ok so I have 2 plants that are a few weeks from finishing (In hydro), I also have 2 that are in very early flower as well as 1 male in very early flower. As soon as I harvest I want to have clones to put into flower.

Whats the best way to go about this, I was thinking I should re veg one of the ones in early flower (in soil) and start taking clones. Since its not budding yet could I take clones off it now with minimal stress and put them under 18/6?

Im looking for healthy rooted clones in about 3 weeks, my other idea which may be better is leave the early flowering ones alone and harvest the others and while im waiting for the early ones to finish ill re veg the best one from my first harvest in soil so that by the time the others finish I should have a mother in veg ready to go. Im thinking that its worth a little extra time to know exactly how they will yield and the quality before I start taking clones.

As long as the mother is stress free at the time of cutting the clone should be also regardless of the previous stress on the mother, is that right?

    Cyclonite,
First off if you only have two I would suggest not totally re vegging either plant but as you said just taking a few clones from it. It really shouldn't stress the plants. When you do take them I would put them under 24hr fluorescents until they root. Put them in a small dome and spray them twice a day for the first week and then once until you find they root. As far as re vegging the ones that are getting close to finished, you could give it a try but I'll tell you I haven't had much luck with them surviving after you've chopped them to almost nothing. Just keep good track of which starts came from which plants and over a short period of time/harvests you'll know where the strongest buds or highest yields (hopfully the same plant) came from. At that point you can finally get down to just the mother you want to take starts off from that point on. Good luck and I hope this helps. Of course all I've said is just the way I've done things. Oh yeah and I use rockwool cubes to do my starts.

So are you saying its better to take clones and re veg them and use 1 as a mother as opposed to re vegging the whole plant?

I think I will take clones from my plant that is 3 weeks from finishing, it hasn't reached senescence yet. Even if its after senescence wouldn't the clone gel supplement the needed rooting hormone? Please leave as much feedback as possible. I want to make the best decision.

Cy - It is a really big gamble to attempt to reveg plants after they are deep into flowering(very low success rate.) If there is no way for you to come up with some clones from another grower my advice would be to give yourself the most chances at success as possible.
It sounds like you really want to keep your cycle uninterupted and that seems difficult but possible. Take cuttings from all your plants in flower and root them. Don't worry about losing yeild this time around. Take enough clones to ensure a mother for future grows and your next grow cycle. Take enough to allow for some failure in rooting and make sure you focus on giving the clones everything they need. All goes well you will have this strain on the shelf as long as you want it.
Too bad you weren't up in the central valley I could probably get some cuts for a fellow grower. This is a nice experiment to try out.

Good Luck, Keep us informed. -Jay

Well I was thinking this time around I may take some from the ones in really early flower, they have had less stress anyways. Im in between Sac and SF BTW.

It sounds like you've got the right idea. Take them from the ones in early flower. They'll have a better chance of making it. You said they're not budding yet so you should have no problems.

its ok to take clones off plants in flower but they are very week
the last couple i did took 3-4 weeks before they kicked into life but they grew well once they reverted back to veg mode
