Okay, so I've never grown before in my life and would like to try. I've read a few guides and have a couple questions to shoot out before its go time.

1). The area I plan to grow in is a tad small. 2 ft deep, 2ft wide and 2"5 high. Is it doable?

2). Its above a water heater. It doesn't get moldy or anything like that, but it does get warm. Is that a pro or a con?

    3) If the first 2 questions get the green light, what are some strains that would grow nicely in said area. Something not very tall, but wide with decent gain.

Hard to picture what you're describing, but I think you can work with that. The warmth will help you germinate the seeds. Not sure what your temps will be like. It will depend on your lighting and room temp. You can probably grow two plants in that space and you will obviously have to keep them short. Post pics of your room if you can. Good Luck

Also, make sure you don't put yourself in any kind of hazard with the water heater below electricity. I hope your heater is grounded. You may want to provide more details about your room so others can give you better advice to move forward or not.

Forget HD's and HPS in that case, it'll get much too hot.
You'll have to go all CFL's. I started off in a similiar space with excellent vent but with a 250 HPS and it's still been a struggle. I LST'd like mad but when flowering time came along, I realized I was still in height trouble.
So now I've built a new room , 2*2 sqm, and am just testing it for heat issues right now.
