buying a BONG.. question
well, a slide is the glass tube with bowl attatched that you slide into that hole at the base and pull out to clear the chamber, and the o-ring is the rubber ring that keeps it airtight between the slide and the hole in the bong. An ice catch will either be little indents in the bong or a curve in the stem you put your mouth to. And like everybody else said, go with glass. And the live at home thing is sucks, you can usually pay with a money order instead of a credit card, but that doesnt do you much good.MyMARYJANE Reviewed by MyMARYJANE on . buying a BONG.. question hey, ive been smoking for a little over a year and i've only used a bong about 5 different times, never mine. me and my friends are buying a bong(hopefully) on thurs. we are looking to spend anywhere from $40-70 (pref. around 50). im not sure how much the place im going to charges.. ive been in there, but to buy other things. is there anything i should really know before buying it? and its a disgrace:p i dont know more about bongs since i smoke pretty often haha. i just dont wanna look Rating: 5

buying a BONG.. question
homemade bongs with slides are nearly non-existant.... usually a homemade bong just has a carb... but if you are to make your own, just use your imagination dude, go browsing through a hardware store and assemble it in your head, start by finding a body, then from there go to the bowl setup, you can try to find a slide mechanism, but i doubt you'll find one...
anyway you go about it, just use your imagination....
there are also glass bongs that aren't custom made, can't remember what they're called, but mine cost me around 50 dollars and it's atleast 12 inches tall... they just don't have as much personality to them as other glass bongs.

buying a BONG.. question
Don't call it a bong when you go in there. Water pipe is the correct term, I believe. I never really call anything in head shops by names, I just point at the ones I want to look at.

buying a BONG.. question
back to the topic, the features you should look for is:
-little nubs on the inside of the chamber to cath ice (or wtih a Zong or 'Z' you should be able to put ice in without the nubs.
-nice big bowl, and if the bowl is bad, you could most likely negotiate for a different bowl (don't get a metal bowl... point final)
-don't even bother looking at anything under 8 inches... you're better off with a bubbler then.
-this isnt that big of a deal, but try to get one of those 'o' rings that you can remove and put back on your own... my friends' bong (or the Kong, as we call it) has one and we scape the resin of it from time to time and have an nice free rez sesh.
-Range you should spend on a bong should probably be between 70-140$, any thing lower isnt really that great, unless you get a great deal on it (use your common sense)
-if by some chance you do get a plastci bong, you could probable get a 2 foot one for about $40, i don't recommend it, unless you and your friends are known for getting your paraphernilia confiscated (like another of my friends, haha)
Good luck finding your bong, bong shopping is always fun.
