It is possible to "smoke yourself straight". The best way to avoid this is to cut down your intake. Another method that I've used is to keep several varieties around, and alternate or mix them.

I smoked myself straight once. What happened was, me and about a dozen friends got kicked out of a Science Fiction convention (for smoking pot in the parking lot). One of the friends was a dealer and had a quarter pound handy, so we all went to his house and smoked pot for two straight days to assuage our anger and sadness at being locked out of the SciFi geekfest. We made up a game we called 'Get High Uno', and the rules were so insane that at the end it was like, 'Give me the bong, I'm 73 hits behind!'

My lungs hurt for a week after that. I know when to quit now. I definitely do reach a point where smoking more doesn't really do anything except make me sleepy. I kept reaching that point at this year's Bonnaroo and waving the joints and pipes past me (why waste it?), and people kept giving me looks like they couldn't believe I was passing up such fine weed. (But it was MY WEED, and I had a pound of it waiting for me when I got back anyway, so whatevah.)

When I was younger, I'd just have kept smoking, whether it had any effect or not, but meh, I'm old enough now to know when I've reached the point of diminishing returns.

LOL wow, no that never happened but my tolerance drops fast and I remember there was a time I noticed when I smoked from a 2 day break I was blown away, higher than I could ever get on the day before the 2 day break and as I ate something and began to come down I tried smoking again and I couldnt get as high . It happened more than once though and I hate it. I think it's the food that keeps me from gettin that high again after I eat...

Yeah, I've kinda smoked myself sober. It was like, I smoked more, but I didn't get higher. Infact, it basically brought my high down, or atleast felt like it. And I just got so used to being high it was like I really wasn't even high.

Occasionally I will feel the need to set aside a somewhat large quantity (maybe a gram to myself in one session, hey it only takes .2-3 to get high!) and I'll just get so high before I finish half of it I realize I won't get any higher, if anything it would get me sober.

I hear you Frivolous! There was a party where I sat in one room and smoked for hours on end. Towards the end it didn't even feel like I was high, despite the fact I had just smoke A LOT of weed. Eventually it seems like its a wash and I've reached my maximum highness. At that point I just sit back and chill.
