    Official Purple Haze Discussion

I know that this is a very divided issue and i think this could help some people who don't really know.... no discussion about prices or anything like that, just whether it's real or not

Personally i think that jimi just wrote the song and called it purple haze, it became popular so people started calling some strains purple haze. so in a way it exsists but also it doesnt at the same time. Its like saying willy wonka candy is real, there is a brand called willy wonka candy but its not like in the book, same with purple haze and the song

That's a damn good analogy with the whole Wonka candy stuff. I don't think it ever existed.

Or maybe it was a strain and Jimi Hendrix decided to name his song after purple haze.

-Purple Haze is not a myth. It is an actual strain that does/did exist.

    - The original Purple Haze apparently wasn't that great a strain at all. This explains why it is no longer grown.

-There is a new "Purple Haze" that is being sold in many of the cannabis clubs in San Francisco, and possibly elsewhere. I have heard that it is a cross of Purple Power and Sensi Star but that's not confirmed. It is, however, a distinct strain sold by multiple and (somewhat) reliable sources. These places also sell other purple strains right along side of it so it's not like they've just gotten something purple and named it "Purple Haze". Incidentally, it is not known as the best purple strain, that distinction goes to Grandaddy Purple (aka Purple Erkal).

In that sense it does exist. Whether or not it should have been been named after a strain that existed in the past but no longer exists is up for debate. But the fact remains, there is a distinct strain called "Purple Haze" that is sold today.

-Purple Haze was a type of acid going around in the late '60's. Most likley Jimi was singing about this. Hendrix did deny, however, that it was a reference to drugs at all. "Hendrix in interviews said that the song comes from a dream Hendrix had, where he was walking under the ocean, surrounded by a Purple Haze. A rumour credits the song to a Native American myth told to Jimi by his Cherokee grandmother. Some say the phrase "purple haze" came from a science fiction novel Hendrix was reading at the time, written by Philip Jose Farmer. Hendrix also explained at one point, that the song is just about love and not about drugs. He said that the line "what ever it is, that girl put a spell on me" is the key to the meaning of lyrics." Ultimately only Hendrix really knows what it was about but it wasn't about weed.

    - A few of the purple strains are extremely potent indicas. Probably in the top 10-20 of all strains in terms of potency. Many purple strains, however, aren't potent at all. In other words the color isn't an indication of quality.

-99.5% of whatever is sold on the streets as "Purple Haze" is either some other Purple strain or a strain that has been exposed to cold temps and gone purple. DON"T PAY HIGH PRICES FOR IT SIMPLY FOR THE NAME. It's like the guy with a armful of "genuine Rolex's".

Purple strains are real, but most of the time it is due to a mistake in growing and then dealers rip people off saying it is bomby purple this and that..

    You said it well

I have a strain here called grand daddy purple and it is bomby, but I prefer others over it still. It gives you a more engergenic high which im not looking for but it has it's percs.

    But purple does exist...

I guess it exsisted but I really dont give a fuck. If you grow weed that has purple buds just call the shit Purple Haze, it's just a name. Ganja smoke is ganja smoke and if it gets you high it shouldnt matter .
