I was in the same boat, and I just bought a set of D'Addario strings yesterday. I haven't played bass much for the past couple of years, and now have an incentive to start again with the new strings.

You can boil old strings and bring them back somewhat, but I've never tried it.

Here's a site that has another method for renewing strings (which I have not tried, either):

It's simple - find a song you link that is easy to play ("the misfits" was my choice :P), look up a tab at bassmasta.net, learn to play said tab. It's really just practice practice practice more than anything. Also try to expose yourself to some jazz music, it tends to have the best bass lines.

I just started playing bass a few months ago, didn't know what i was doing at first but my mate plays bass in a few bands so we get a jam usually on a friday now, and even though its been incredibly dry around here recently one of us has always managed to get at least a bit for a few joints, so its all good, we get stoned, he teaches me some bass.

Anyway, pu ekot, could you reccomend some jazz tunes? i've been meaning to listen to some but not sure what to get... also i've been learning a few songs by pennywise and the descendents, any other(not too complicated) similar style songs you can reccomend?

I play whatever instrument I can get my hands on. I've only been playing bass for 2 years but Ive gotten pretty good at it. It helps to learn guitar first and to have big hands

    Yeah I play.

    Here's my current gear:
    Rickenbacker 4001, black/white
    Ibanez GSR200, dark red
    Ampeg Ba-112 Amp
    Behringer BX4210A Amp

I'm in a three-piece band called "Rely On Miscommunication" with my friend Erik on the drums. I supply the bass and vocals. J-osh is on the keyboard.

    Jesse Keeler is my hero.
