Where'd you live in China moorephened and what were ya doing there? I lived in Shanghai for a bit over a year back in '96-'97. Totally different place now though. My wife is Chinese so we go back every year or so and can never believe how much different it is now. Heck, now they've even got Starbucks. I went half crazy trying to find a decent cup of coffee when I was there.

Anyhow, the Chinese will never like the Japanese. What the Japanese did to the Chinese in WWII makes what the Nazi's did to the Jew's look like a tea party. The fact that the Japanese continue to deny it makes them all the more pissed. The Chinese do like Japanese money though. If you go to any of the markets where prices aren't marked the vendors will typically have three prices: Chinese, general laowai(foriegner), and Japanese. Scamming the Japanese is the unofficial national sport .

North Korea having nukes really isn't anything new. They've been considered a nuclear power for quite a while. This is just the first time they've actually tested one of their nukes. It's just Kim Jong Il sticking his tongue out at the rest of the world. I don't know what he's hoping to accomplish though. Since we already knew he had them it's not like it's suddenly going to change anything. Plus it's just alienating him even more from China. While China would be quite critical of any unprovoked action by the US against the DPRK, they'll be just as critical if Kim starts something. If he's not careful he's going to wind up facing the the US and PRC on the same team.
