DO NOT smoke pot before you try salvia, it will make salvia's effects more intense and longer lasting, and if this is your first time trying salvia, you want the effects to be short.

If you mean alcohol buzzed, yes it is a good idea for your first try, as it will make the experience weaker and easier to handle. After this first time, you will have an idea of what salvia is like, and then will be able to try it without booze.
