i want to learn drunken monkey boxing kung fu, but theres no schools for it anywhere NEAR where i live and have to resort to books, any good ones anyone would suggest?
i know people would say that learning kung fu from a book is not as effective as learning from an instructor but i find that if its written down i learn so much better because i can study it over and over again and commit it to memory much fasterMastaChronic Reviewed by MastaChronic on . My kind of topic
First man, other than "it looks cool" why are you wanting to learn martial arts? Self-defense, fun, bored ect?
I have been training in the martial arts for 6 years now with my last two years at a reality-based, self-defense school (the only one in our state) am an active submission fighter. I train 2-3 hours a day, 5x a week on a normal schedule. My point being, I can offer some advice.
If you want to learn how to fight, really fight, throw out the drunken monkey business and stick with arts like Muay Thai and JuJitsu (or sub wrestling). Both arts have proven on the street and in the ring.
And if you want to seriously train (are you high now) look into finding a school to devote your time to. Those books are nice to read and show techniques that might impress your buddies when you are fooling around but learning martial arts from a book will get you killed on the street.

i have a buddy thats a brown belt in juijitsu and a green belt in shotokan karate, hes shown me a few things, but i want to learn kung fu because it is a martial art that promotes speed, agility and flexibility, i believe it would be a good base for future learning. my friend's sensei told me after i learn a bit of kung fu i can train it against some of his beginning students in karate and after time step up to higher skilled opponents
