Exactly my point lol. I trained Oyama Karate (considered one of the very few "hard" styles) and in my second knockdown tourney I took 1st in men's division buy beating a black and another brown, both of shotokan and another guy from a TKD school. I was at "orange belt" or the third belt when I did that.

An FYI also: just about every friggin karate place doesn't train with contact nor with punches to the head. I learned this after thinking I new a few things after having competed in respected events at the time before I got that first punch to the head.
