My kind of topic

First man, other than "it looks cool" why are you wanting to learn martial arts? Self-defense, fun, bored ect?

I have been training in the martial arts for 6 years now with my last two years at a reality-based, self-defense school (the only one in our state) am an active submission fighter. I train 2-3 hours a day, 5x a week on a normal schedule. My point being, I can offer some advice.

If you want to learn how to fight, really fight, throw out the drunken monkey business and stick with arts like Muay Thai and JuJitsu (or sub wrestling). Both arts have proven on the street and in the ring.

And if you want to seriously train (are you high now ) look into finding a school to devote your time to. Those books are nice to read and show techniques that might impress your buddies when you are fooling around but learning martial arts from a book will get you killed on the street.
