Just like dryst said. You must be 18 to buy a rifle, 21 to buy a hand-gun.
Although it is not illlegal for Juveniles to possess either type of gun, just to buy. Basicly to buy it, they run a check on your background, could take a hour or a day depending where you go. In order to get a permit to carry a weapon in public you will need to do the following.

The following criteria determines who is eligible to obtain a permit:

* Must be a resident of the county where application is being made.
* A resident of a county in this state within the last 30 days.
* A resident of the state within the last 45 days.
* Must provide a color photograph taken within 30 days of application.
* Must provide fingerprints.
* Can provide proof of the successful completion of a firearms safety-training course taken within the last 3 years.
* Must be 21 years of age or older.

The following criteria determines who is ineligible to obtain a permit:

* A fugitive from justice.
* Under indictment for or convicted of a felony.
* Under indictment for or convicted of a crime involving drugs.
* Within the preceding 3 years was convicted of a crime of violence.
* Within the preceding 5 years was convicted of assault or aggravated assault.
* Within the preceding 10 years was convicted of resisting arrest, or convicted of interfering with the lawful arrest of another person.
* Is subject to a civil protection order or a temporary civil protection order issued by the court of any state.

Applicants must provide proof of training, completed within the last 3 years, by submitting an original or photocopy of a certificate of completion of a training course.

Each course must consist of a minimum 12 hours, with 10 hours dedicated to:

* Safe handling, safe storage.
* Safe handling of ammunition.
* Safe firing of a handgun.
* Gun handling training.
* A written exam on the above issues.
* Additionally, 2 hours of each course must be dedicated to live-fire training.
