I used to chew, about a tin of Skoal a week. It was the toughest thing I've ever quit. When my dentist said he said signs of what could turn into cancer, I stopped right away. There's a lot more parts (throat, mouth, gums, etc) that can be impacted by chewing tobacco. Not to mention the tobacco itself, the chemicals I've heard they add to stuff like Skoal is even worse.

It's more difficult to quit than smoking cigarettes, in my opnion. It started out small, like you mentioned, but eventually developed into an all day thing. It was easy to keep a dip in, since I could do it just about anywhere, unlike smoking, which you can't even do outside in some places.

My advice is to give it up while it's still a casual thing. The buzz thing will wear off, and you'll do it just because you need to. It's been 8 months since I had any .... and I still think about having one just about every day. I chew a LOT of gum now.
