AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
The most effective way is to kill the queen... You have been putting stuff out that kills or mames the workers, they are programed like the Taliban, they will die for the queen... a worker ant's first priority is to feed the queen, you must fool them into thinking they have something to give the queen to eat, that would be poison... take a good sticky jam and stick a little boric acid in the center place it on a trail and observe if it is being removed... if ants have no queen they have nothing to live for... Some colonies have queens in wait,,, in which you are screwed...
the flying ants mean that the nest is crowded and winged ants where produced to make other nests...
Are they carpenter ants,.medium to big black ant with big mandibles??? if so they have found a damp spot to live,it has to be damp or they cant survive... check for rotting wood around the house and rotting trees... Ants are big opportunists and if you kill the colony a winged one will come along and reestablish... the rot has to be fixed in order to fully take care of the problem...
