latewood: like i said there regular seeds so i will be cramming them until ive determined sex and picked out my pheno types, i also have plans to get a hydro hut mini and use a 400watt cfl, i would like to keep a mother of either some NYC diesel or lavender from soma seeds, i do however agree with you on the 4 plants max in the hut, i recently finished 5 blueberries and it was a fucking jungle in there, finished with 1.5lbs of premo, however im hoping to try a new method of lolipopping, my goal is to hit 2lbs in the hut

    yeah man...good. I have a nycd in week2f and a fantasma(ak47X) just showed pistil's...and oh yeah a few rooted C99xNL5 klonz.

I have also found that if you grow only 2 instead of 4...the yield will be the same, because the plants have more space and "Damn" if they won't use it and bud bigger when less plants are grown...In fact, I am cloning only a few now and doing seed grows myself (got a nice collection) after year or so perpetual off Mistyblue MUM.

Anyway,,sorry I didn't read your earlier post correct to see you said you were weeding out. I hope you don't end up like me the last time I started 12...I got nine fems...and they all looked sweet.
I ended up with 6 due to health and space issues. peace

holy crap, 5 window units! Im just growing for personal smoke, sounds like you have major operations going on! I'll probably end up selling off this 1000 watt i have and getting a 400 or 600 watt with the air cool fittings and tempered glass setup.

1000 watt light with reflector=8'x8' footprint. So if you grow in a 6'x6' -8'x8'area you can rotate in/out 6-9 plants...

Heh, I thought you meant 5 7500BTU window units per room too, and I was thinking, wow, you're gonna get high score at the electric company billing office!

yeah! it looks like it he's saying he has 5 window units. So latewood, would you think if i had a 8x8 room with intake and exhaust i could maybe use my light even not being enclosed air cooled hood? The reason i got the light in the first place is because a guy i know sold it to me for $150 with 2 bulbs, a metal halide and a warm burning MH for flowering. Im currently just growing two plants under 4, 4ft tubes and like 4 of those 150w equivilent cfls.

whatever you do...you have to have cool enough air for intake to cool room as you exhaust out the hot air...if you can stay in the 70's then you are set., but you will need a temp/humidity controller to turn on fans when temps/humidity get too high.

dehumidifiers workto pull humidity and I believe(just getting mine, finally) they will also help keep temps down,,,I understand them to work similar to AC... I'll let you know in a week or 2.
do some research on closed environments, and you will gain some more insight.

also, Zandor's show covered this I believe. peace

i used to run thousand watters,
you do need air cooled hoods ideally, depends on your set up. however it is cheaoer and you get more lumens from two six hundred units than from a 1000 watt, the 600 unit is the most efficient at light for power output!
1000 watt lamps are good for depth penetration! something you wont need in a seven foot high grow room! pluss two six hundreds can disperse the light more evenly. dont get me wrong you will get good results under a 1000 watter, but even better for less cost under two sixhundreds!

sorry mistyganjatree. but you are wrong on at least 2 points...1st 600w hid's are almost the same price as 1000w due to their efficiency.

2nd You need light penetration as you have mentioned in a 3 foot room. You lose a large % of light every foot...3 feet down and you are not getting much penetration...And before You start preaching something you read...keep in mind I have 8 plants in my flower section using drip under a 1000w horti and only have 4 feet clearance in that section. I need every bit of the illumination in order to penetrate at all.

So In closing, although 600watts are extremely efficient..I will still take 2 1000watters; which, by the way cost about the same thing! and I will take the extra 30,000 lumens they 'each' give me.

As far as heat...there is not much difference in that case either...2 600 watt HID's will put out almost the same radiant heat as 2 1000watt HID's, or just use one.

L3gion...you got a great deal man. I would keep what you got, use the warm MH bulb always...I did the same thing as mentioned above #10. You just have to cool it. I got a 5000btu window unit at HOPOT for 80 bucks last year. ***I have never had a problem really with not be able to cool room to in the 70's...I have however consistantly fought high humidity.
I actually am using a 1000watt MH agrosun gold on my fantasma and NYCD in flower. It is a myth that you have to have hps...
I am not disputing MH for veg hps for flower...But some people get a MH and think they are Screwed; Not the case...after all 1000 watts is 1000 watts, even if it is not the most efficient 1000w...Make sense?

Now Z might bomb me for this, LOL, because, Z believes in being perfectly efficient and not wasting a lumens or ppm at all...Playing GOD, so to speak, because that is what you do in a closed environment. You provide or take away atmosphere water nutrients and light as You see fit.

I am not saying that hps isn't the best for finishing, but I think that if you could have 1 MH and 1 hps...that would be perfect...some experts like a 60/40 ratio

    I have a 250 hps...that I actually veg with...supplemented by cfl's, and that kicks ass...
I have a semi-retired vertical 400 MH that I use to side light or supplement 1000 watter/covering stretched areas.
Then I have one section under 1000 horti on 6' lightrail, but I am going to add another lamp and get rid of the mover! It promoted TOO MUCH stretching. I would rather have 2 lights sitting over the plants adjusting lights consistantly.

Most of you know that I build my own lights. Up to now I didn't use reflectors...that keeps my heat down some, but I have 2 econowings ordered and I am trying to get my set-ups more efficient...this will finish my home economy 1000watt build and I will add it to the growfaqs. i.e. I might almost be through experimenting for a while and attempt to tweak all systems out, improving efficiency and yield.

I hope I addressed all your Q's here; And, I hope I have clarified some of the mystery. I will be happy to advise any of you on *building your own lights (NOT FOR THE TIMID)(LOL) if you choose to do so. Peace

ps for those of you that are newer...please read beyond surface statistics on lights and such before advising...We all appreciate anyone who wants help out...That is how we all started. Be careful not to advise 1/2 faqs (1/2 statistical truth 1/2 wrong practical advice). Goodluck

*If you want a secure way to order lighting supplies email me: [email protected] and I will hook you up with a *link
If you buy your HID kits through the link I provide I will walk you through your build if necessary. latewood
