Oh whatever to do with the quads??

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and also to growing...If you could read about my little situation and throw your 2 cents in...I'd like that.

So, I usually smoke outside and I suppose that when I was emptying out my pipe; some seeds must've accumulated on the ground....underneath the hose (so they had lots o water) because what I have on my hands now are 4 beautiful, and very determined little babies. I say that because they've managed to germinate and take root and sprout outside where there is hardly any sunlight at all in florida in late october. They're just too precious to "get rid of" but it's getting cold and the only option is ...inside... my landlord is a tighta** and doesn't want them in the house I'm sure but, I've got a closet in my room I think is just perfect however, they're eventually going to smell....ALOT aren't they? I'm not too sure what strain it is I just know that their momma lived in CA. and was dark green at the bottom of the bud that faded into light green and was covered in crystals and orange hair. I also know that some strains can live outdoors in temps. in the 40's and 50's. Basically, do you think I can get away with them inside (since this little endeavor will only last 2-3 months and they won't smell the entire time, will they?) or should I just let them be outside and see what comes of it?

Thanks guys I really appreciate the time and effort!

They'll must likely shrivel up outside, and if smell is an issue, there are various things you can do to combat that problem. DIY charcoal filters are cheap and easy and will clean the air running out of a vent. Just make sure to get a proper light, a 100-200w HID, either HPS or MH will do nicely, although the red light thrown off by HPS's is nice for flowering. Bringing them inside and giving them light from a regular incandescent bulb would be worse than leaving them to the elements.

If they stay out side they will die by frost or naturaly life due to long night time.
Bring em in and put em under a cheap 30 watt flouresant , it will keep em gowing for you nicely , don,t worry too much about smell as they usualy start to smell a few weeks into flowering.

awesome thanks guys...I do have a couple questions though...When people are talking about lights..what do they mean when they use the abbreviations...VHO or HID, HPS, or MH..are they different types of flourescents? What are the differences and what works best when you're going for speed?

VHO are florescent lights - the most powerful ones (florescent) out there. Come in 40w, 80w, and 110w (per bulb). They still fall shy of most HID (high-intensity discharge) lights. HID's come in a variety of wattages, 400w and 1000w being the most common from what I've seen. HPS and MH are two types of HID lights - High-Pressure Sodium, and Metal Halide are what they stand for, respectively.

So HID's (include HPS, MH, MV, etc) are not florescent lights at all, different type of construction entirely. Normally HID's are used since their efficiency is very good in most cases, and they come in wattages stronger than any other light type.

From what you've said HID would be an overkill. A small florescent light would suit you well, I wouldn't even bother getting VHO or anything just for a few small plants in a temp operation. It definately won't get your plants growing the fastest - you'll need some good wattage (400+ at least) to do that. But that also doesn't mean it won't work, it'll just take longer to grow.

They don't start to smell for awhile either, don't worry too much about that - it's mainly during flowering when they being to stink up the place nicely. If it's a problem, open a nearby window and put an exhaust fan in it.
