Leaves drying out?
Hey all.
I'm still doing my "practice grow" with a couple bagseeds before my real seeds arrive. As I am doing this, I have just come across a little problem. It seems as if the leaves of my plant are drying out. They are still vegging, have been for 2 weeks. They are under CFLs. And it seems that they started drying out once I put a fan in my grow space.
Now, what can I do to fix this? Can I use a spray bottle and gently mist the leaves? Or what? I don't want to add any more water to the soil because I don't want to over water it. It's getting plenty of water, but the leaves are drying out.
What can I do?
Thanks for the help.peace plz Reviewed by peace plz on . Leaves drying out? Hey all. I'm still doing my "practice grow" with a couple bagseeds before my real seeds arrive. I'd move the fan then, or at least reduce how long you have it on for, that could be burning them, plants might not be big enuff yet if it's a strong fan. Also whats your temps at? and have you started feeding yet?

Point the fan away from the plants, but so it still moves air around the room.
Keep them watered.

The temp is at 74 degrees right now. I think what the problem is, is the fan is a little too big for the plants' size right now. It's just your regular oscillating fan, but the plants are pretty small. I will indirectly point the fan to them.
But to answer my own question, no I shouldn't mist the leaves with water? Is this because of a fear of mold or something growing on the leaves?

Fear of pythium rot. Small plants are pretty susceptible to it.

Alright thanks stinkyattic. I've got the fan blowing above the plants rather than directly onto them.

Leaves drying out?
Oh, one other quick question.
What is the optimum humidity to have during veg and during flowering? And what is a way to raise and lower the humidity?
Would sticking a glass of water in the grow space raise it?
Thanks again.

I'm not sure about optimum, but I keep mine at 40-50% without mold issues.
Just a glass of water won't help, but a large pan of water might if it's warm enough. You can humidify your room putting a tray of water over your ballast, which is always warm, but that's a huge shock risk so I don't recommend it. Last winter I put a tray of water in front of my space heater's blower as a makeshift humidfier. It seemed to work fine.
