Since photosynthesis is the process that turns light into growth, would it make sense to give a plant more light.....one adds an half-hour per day until one reaches, oh let's say, 17/5. ?

Your basic idea of giving more light is corrcet, but the way you plan on doing it would result in a reversion to vegetative growth.

Instead, you can add another LIGHT. Some growers have a 'finishing room' where plants live for the last month of flowering, that has SUPER high light intensity, like along the lines of a closet with a HPS1000.

That's the 'safe' way to do what you're talking about.
