just getting started, need some expert advice!

so Im thinking about starting some plants in my apt. I would like to know a few things before I get started, so I dont have half way through, and say oops.
1. what is the best flourescent bulbs to use
2. where can I find worm water
3. what is pruning, and why is it necessary?
4. when can I tell the difference between male and female
5. when should I start applying water and fertilizer and how much of both

I just joined the message boards yesterday, so I will come up with more questions as I go along, I appreaciate any help that anybody can give me:rasta:

You can make your own worm tea with worm castings. Use an old stocking of worm castings in a bucket of water, let it steep overnight, swish it around.
Or why don't you just add worm castings to your soil!? Easy!

I recommend you use "cool" bulbs for vegging. 6500K color temp. They give off the least amount of heat, allowing them to be the closest to the plant, good for the early stage of growth. They help keep overall height down. Then you can get an hps for nice buds. Good Luck

Compact fluorescents, 6500Kelvin for veg, and 2700K for flowering

it isn't necessary. it is optional. If you cut off a growth tip two will grow in its place and they you'll have two top colas

A few weeks into flowering

Read the bottles that your fert comes in. dont start for at least 4 weeks
