    Abovetheinfluence, below the truth.

I read this on www.abovetheinfluence.com and was wondering if anyone else agreed that the information given out should be current? Well, the fucking fact about marijuana having four times the cancerous causing tar than cigarettes? This is from 1988..WTF? that's nearly twenty years ago. This is bullshit information. Recent information shows too much truth for these dicks, but they shouldn't conceal the truth. Think about this as well, when you're busted with weed, more than likely you're going to have to go to a treatment center because you have a 'drug problem.'

    Marijuana

    Marijuana is illegal.

Smoking pot affects alertness, concentration, perception, coordination and reaction time, many of the skills required for safe driving and other tasks. These effects can last several hours after smoking.
Source: Marijuana: Facts Parents Need to Know, Revised, NIDA, November 1998

Teens age 12 to 17 who regularly smoke marijuana were shown to be three times more likely than non-users to have suicidal thoughts.
Source: Greenblatt, J. Adolescent self-reported behaviors and their association with marijuana use, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 1998

Can you become addicted to marijuana? Actually, yes. More teens are in treatment with a primary diagnosis of marijuana dependence than for all other illicit drugs combined.
Source: Treatment Episodes Data Set (TEDS) 1992-2002, SAMHSA, 2004

Marijuana has some of the same cancer-causing substances as tobacco. One joint can deliver four times as much cancer-causing tar as one cigarette.
Source: Wu, TC et al. Pulmonary hazards of smoking marijuana as compared with tobacco. New England Journal of Medicine. 318(6):347-351, 1988.

Y'know I just dont see why every anti-drug organization always has marijuana as their #1 target with bull shit lies. While marijuana might be the number one illegally used substance, those companies barely ever mention the dangers or intoxicating effects (which are way worse than marijuanas) of other drugs that actually can kill people.

edit: I mean some companies metion things about other drugs like on their web-site or something but every commercial you see it's always about marijuana, never ecstasy or cigarettes or alcohol or meth. The last alc commercial was "dont drink and drive, or you get ticket" or a beer commercial that tells those fucks to "drink responsibly." Then with cigarettes the last commercial I ever seen was the truth commercial about M&M's and cigarettes. And the only thing I've seen about meth is to report meth labs...but all the examples of a high person or stories about people and marijuana are always seem to be put on t.v. for a good 15 to 20 seconds.

Well, there's a reason they put so much effort into dissing cannabis. They're not going to dis alcohol and tobacco too much, because those are huge multibillion dollar industries that are very dear to our government's economic interests. They can't appear to be all for these drugs because everybody knows they can be really harmful, but it's not like the government is going to go on a massive crusade to erase alcohol and tobacco use from the general population like they do with the black market drugs.

They don't need to create a massive campaign to inform people that crack and meth and heroin can seriously fuck you up either. Hardly anybody disputes that, even the people addicted to them. It would be a waste of money from the government's perspective, as it does not achieve their goals.

But there are lots of people, millions of them, smoking cannabis every day and noticing no real significant ill effects; in order to justify retaining the status quo on cannabis laws (which have been rejected by huge portions of the youth for the past four decades), they need to fight this perception with all the distorted truths and outright lies they can muster up.

We should be encouraged by these anti-cannabis commercials. They show us that the system finds the pro-cannabis population to be a real threat to the status quo and that a massive public campaign is needed to combat it. The very fact that they need to distribute this kind of propaganda to convince the public that cannabis is bad is just an indication that too many people are starting to believe exactly the opposite.

I think there full of shit. My mom has smoke cigs since she was young. She just turned 71 and has lymphobic lung cancer and the dr's say it wasn't from smoking. She took care of the parks In Center ND, small town, and what there saying is that the spray she had to use for weeds and leafy spurge is where the cancer came from. The city would not provide her with the proper safety equipment and now I am losing my mom to lung cancer. So, this crap about all the tar from smoking is just shit.
