They were still paddling the heck outta Texas schoolkids when I came through late-elementary and secondary school in the 60s and 70s. Corporal punishment didn't go completely away in Texas secondary schools until the last 10 - 15 years, sadly.

Birdy I started school in '72 in Dublin and we were regularly disaplined with a wooden ruler. Normally across the knuckles by the teacher in class or for a more serious offence you were sent to the principle (head nun) for the cane. I can't imagine anyone treating my kids this way...I'd havta be dug outta them...

Not quite sure when that all stopped, I don't remember anything like it in secondary school (1980's)

That kind oif brutality is a common thing over there, and brytal capital punishment still gets practiced over there by public hangings, and shooting squads, for everyone to see, so this kind of brutal behaviour, is nothing new to them.

Is there weed in China? Just curious.

Even when I went to elementary, they still practiced punishment with a leather strap. They usually only hit you on your hands, never like this though. That was in the 90's as well, but a few years later, they stopped it.

You can't judge the whole country by the actions of one psycho teacher. We've got the incident at Columbine, and many other murderous rampages in schools, here as well.

They'll probably give the teacher the death penalty.
