i really doubt beating students to death is common practice in china, but hitting them might be ok. it was normal for teachers to do that in the us not too long ago. im not saying its right though.

Chinese history teacher Li Hengyi is accused of killing a student, Ms. Zhang Yaoyi, as stunned classmates watched in shocked amazement. The young victim was an 11-year-old female student at the No. 12 Middle School in the Chinese city of Yongzhou. Witnesses stated that, "He knocked her head against the desks back and forth and stomped on her after she fell (and) then produced a steel bar to beat her." Rating: 5

The had hitting in the parochaial schools when I was growing up (some probably still do), and most of the public schools allowed hitting in the 30's, 40's, and 50's.

I still can't believe what I've just read...that is so cruel. What do you think the little girl did to deserve such beatings? Well, no matter what, she certainly did NOT deserve it. That teacher needs to be put behind american bars and get rapped by huge black men. That'll teach the "BITCH".

thsi mgiht sound bad but i doubt he will get the death penalty.....because shes a girl, and over there they treat them like dirt for the msot part anyway.... but yah this pretty much disgusts me, and i could never imagine anything like that happening around here.

I went to public school and when I was in 1st grade back on 1969, my teacher called my mom up to the school to watch as I got paddled.
That was Long Island New York in the end of the 60's and they continued to hit kids in my school for a couple of more years although I ran away when they were gonna hit me again.

They were still paddling the heck outta Texas schoolkids when I came through late-elementary and secondary school in the 60s and 70s. Corporal punishment didn't go completely away in Texas secondary schools until the last 10 - 15 years, sadly.
